Round-brush work, smooth finishes, curl shaping, and adding volume.
Student hairstylist - Hope, Ontario
Colour, blowouts, and careful client care.
I'm Laura Jareno Gonzalez. I'm training in the Hairstyling Program at Fleming College and building The Chikas Studio while I learn, with a focus on colour, smooth styling, and looking after the person in the chair.
Introduction
Still learning, and I take the chair seriously.
My goal is a junior stylist role in a salon where I can keep learning, build a regular clientele, and grow with a team. I like the whole appointment: the consultation, the work, and sending someone out happy with how they look.
I care about being prepared, communicating clearly, and keeping the appointment calm and comfortable from start to finish.
Skills and technique
Training across the whole appointment.
Every look starts with listening: hair history, what someone's after, and how much upkeep they want. I'm most drawn to soft, wearable results that still look good in everyday life, not just in a photo.
Practicing dimensional brunettes, warm blondes, coppers, and reds, and learning to tone them right.
Going over inspiration photos, hair condition, timing, and what's realistic in one visit.
Shampoo and scalp care, sanitation, and the hygiene standards I'm learning at Fleming.
Selected work
Practice, colour work, and styling I'm proud of.
A mix of student work, practice sessions, and colour and styling I've been exploring as I build my range.
Dimensional blonde curl finish
This finish was inspired by soft salon waves: visible brightness, curl definition, and movement that still feels touchable.
Rich red colour polish
A bold red result focused on shine, richness, and smooth styling. I wanted the colour to feel confident while keeping the shape clean and wearable.
Glossy brunette waves
Soft waves add shape while letting the brunette shine and reflection stay the focus.
Dimensional blonde layers
Layered movement with brightness through the mid-lengths and ends for a softer, lived-in look.
Dark layered curls
Curling and shaping practice designed to show long layers, body, and healthy-looking shine.
Warm copper waves
Copper warmth creates a soft glow, with waves styled to reveal depth and tonal variation.
Short silver finish
A short finish focused on controlled shape, texture, and a polished final silhouette.
Rose brunette waves
Warm brunette colour paired with defined waves for a soft, romantic finish.
Before and after
Good results start with a clear consultation.
Before-and-after is where the talking and the technique come together. I look at where the hair is starting, go over the client's inspiration, plan what's realistic for the time we have, and style it so the colour and shape are easy to see.
What I'm drawn to is salon work that feels elevated but still wearable: soft movement, warm dimension, and tone that suits the person.
